"If a citizen must pay taxes without fail, shouldn't the government be responsible when negligence costs a citizen's life?"
Every year, citizens pay lakhs of crores in taxes—income tax, GST, road tax, property tax, fuel tax, and many more. Yet when a citizen loses their life due to an open manhole, an uncovered drain, a pothole-ridden road, a fallen electric wire, waterlogging, or any other preventable government negligence, the loss is often treated as just another statistic.
Why should a common family suffer forever because of the failure of authorities?
If a life is lost due to proven government negligence, there should be a mandatory compensation of at least ₹1 Crore to the victim's family, along with accountability for the responsible officials.
A government that collects taxes has a duty to provide safe roads, proper drainage, reliable infrastructure, and public safety. Citizens fulfill their responsibility by paying taxes; governments must fulfill theirs by protecting lives.
A human life cannot be replaced by money, but compensation and accountability can ensure that negligence is not ignored and that future tragedies are prevented.
The question is simple:
If citizens are held accountable for paying taxes, shouldn't governments be held accountable when negligence costs a citizen's life?
